Audi continues to actively update its model range. After the launch of the Audi Q6 e-tron and the Audi A5/S5, it's time for the new generation Audi A6 e-tron to make its debut.
Remember the large business class sedan? Forget it, because from now on, the Audi A6 e-tron model has a basic Sportback body - that is, it is a 5-door liftback with a sloping rear window and a large trunk lid. In addition, the Audi A6 Sportback e-tron stands out for its distinctive double-decker headlights with Matrix LED technology, and the main novelty is the second-generation OLED headlights. Not only the front end, but also the interior of the new Audi A6 e-tron is reminiscent of the Audi Q6 e-tron: a pair of displays are integrated into the oval panel plus an additional display for the driver. Three displays not enough? Then there are two additional ones in the doors, instead of traditional mirrors, because cameras are used here.
And forget about gasoline and diesel engines. Because from now on, the Audi A6 e-tron family is exclusively electric. It is based on the PHEV platform, which includes a battery with a nominal capacity of 100 kWh (95 kWh is actually used), support for 800 volts, integrated braking and regeneration system iBS, rear or all-wheel drive, spring or air suspension. However, there are no options with traditional internal combustion engines.
Thankfully, we retained the opportunity to choose the Audi A6 Avant e-tron wagon and generous dimensions: for two body variants, we have a 4.93-meter length and a 2.95-meter wheelbase. But the range is different. While the base version of the Audi A6 Sportback e-tron with one electric motor (270 kW or 367 hp) and rear-wheel drive can travel up to 756 km, the similar Audi A6 Avant e-tron wagon can cover up to 720 km. However, this is unlikely to stop European buyers who traditionally choose a more practical station wagon, such as the Audi A6 Avant e-tron.
If power and two drive wheels are not enough, a quattro variant with two electric motors for separate front/rear wheel drive is offered. The total output reaches 315 kW or 428 hp, which promises some improvement in dynamics. Although the top speed for all variants of the Audi A6 e-tron remains unchanged - 210 km/h.
Isn't that enough? The Audi S6 Sportback e-tron and Audi S6 Avant e-tron sport versions are designed for the "mom who loves speed": all-wheel drive and two electric motors, a rated power of 370 kW or a peak short-term power of even 405 kW (550 hp), acceleration to "hundred" in 3.9 seconds and a maximum of 240 km/h.
Sales of the new Audi A6 e-tron will start in Germany in the fall, the price is already known: Audi A6 Sportback e-tron - from 75600 euros, Audi S6 Sportback e-tron - from 99500 euros, versions with the Avant wagon body will traditionally be slightly more expensive.
