Tesla is recalling 1.85 million cars in the United States due to a problem with the unlocked hood. The situation will be resolved through a software update, which is formally called a recall, Reuters reports.

According to the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, an unlocked hood can open completely and block the driver's view, which increases the risk of an accident.

To solve the problem, Tesla began rolling out a wireless software update in mid-June 2024, which is available for some Model 3, Model S, Model X, and Model Y cars.

The updated software detects an open hood and warns drivers about it. Tesla noted that the recalled cars were equipped with a hood latch made by Magna Closures Co Ltd.

It is worth noting that this is not the first time the automaker has dealt with such incidents. For example, earlier it became known about the recall of 1.6 million Tesla cars in China due to problems with the Autopilot system.

Later, Tesla recalled 200 thousand cars in the United States due to a malfunction of the rearview camera - it did not turn on when the car was moving in reverse.
