We start the week with a real time machine. After all, the Auto Union Type 52 - which today would be called a supercar - was laid down in the first drawings back in 1933-1935, but it was never built. Until today: Audi, which is the historical successor of Auto Union, decided to create a real Auto Union Type 52 car and presented it at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in the UK.
As planned 90 years ago, the Auto Union Type 52 has an aerodynamic, streamlined aluminum body and a centrally located engine. And what a powerful one at that: The Auto Union Type 52 is equipped with a 6-liter V16 compressor engine that produces 520 hp thanks to the use of a methanol-based mixture.
Interestingly, the original plans of the 1930s also included a V16 engine, but a much smaller one with a volume of 4.4 liters and about 200 hp. However, during the construction of the Auto Union Type 52, it was decided to use a more powerful engine from the Auto Union Type C racing car of the same period.
Among other unique features of the Auto Union Type 52 is its body and interior format. There are four doors in total, but the rear doors are only used to access the spare wheels. The interior is located in the front of the body. Moreover, it is made 3-seater - the driver occupies the center seat, two more passenger seats are installed on the right and left: reminiscent of the McLaren F1.
Needless to say, this unique Auto Union Type 52 is not for sale. Instead, it will participate in various historical races and themed automotive events.
