According to anonymous sources, Samsung's new XR/VR headset will be available in October 2024 for developers. For consumers, the new product should appear on the market in March 2025. This was reported by TechRadar.
The term XR (augmented reality) is used to refer to virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), and mixed reality (virtual elements that can be customized to interact with or blend into the real world).
Samsung has previously stated that something new will appear in the XR category by the end of 2024, but this is the first time we have heard specific months. Samsung is working on its headset together with Google, and it is known that it will run Android. However, as is always the case with rumors, nothing can be said for sure until official information is available.
Samsung is planning a conference for developers on October 3. It is possible that this is when developers will be given an early version of the headset so that they can start working on applications and prepare for the launch in 2025.
Apparently, Google's engineers are now focusing again on Android XR, which will be the basis for the upcoming headset and other devices. Reportedly, Google offered Meta to use the platform for its own mixed reality headsets, but was turned down.
