Elon Musk's xAI company has introduced a new generation of Grok chatbot and a whole family of artificial intelligence models, including Grok 3, Grok 3 Reasoning, and Grok 3 mini Reasoning. This was reported by TechCrunch.
Elon Musk claims that 10 times more computing power was used to train the models than Grok 2.
In addition, an expanded set of training data was used, including even court case files.
"Grok 3 is an order of magnitude more capable than Grok 2, Musk said during the presentation. "[It’s a] maximally truth-seeking AI, even if that truth is sometimes at odds with what is politically correct."
xAI claims that Grok 3 outperforms GPT-4o in benchmarks such as AIME (which evaluates model performance on a sample of math questions) and GPQA (which evaluates models using PhD-level physics, biology, and chemistry problems).
Grok 3 Reasoning and Grok 3 mini Reasoning will thoroughly check their answers before outputting them, like o3-mini from OpenAI and R1 from China's DeepSeek. xAI claims that Grok 3 Reasoning outperforms OpenaAI's best reasoning model, o3-mini-high, on several popular benchmarks, including the newer AIME 2025 math benchmark.
Some "thoughts" of reasoning models will be hidden to prevent distillation, a method used by AI model developers to train other models. This is how DeepSeek trained its model based on OpenAI's model, according to the latter.
Grok will also introduce a new DeepSearch feature that will search for information at the user's request, analyze it, and provide a comprehensive answer.
X Premium+ subscribers ($50 per month) will be the first to have access to Grok 3, with other features available under a new plan that xAI calls SuperGrok. For $30 per month or $300 per year, SuperGrok will provide access to additional DeepSearch reasoning and queries, as well as unlimited image generation.
Musk also promises that Grok will have a "voice mode" in a week. A few weeks after that, Grok 3 models will be available through the xAI enterprise API along with a deep search function.
Also, when the company is ready to fully upgrade to Grok 3, it will open source the previous Grok 2 model. It is reported that this will happen in the coming months.
