The Blood of Dawnwalker's creative director Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz wants his new game to be as good as The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt in quests. He told Games Radar about it.
Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz was the lead designer of the quests in The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077. Together with his brother Konrad Tomaszkiewicz, he founded Rebel Wolves to free themselves from the bureaucracy of large companies and give free rein to their creativity.
"In terms of quality, we definitely look at AAA, because this is where we are coming from, the quality level of The Witcher 3," says Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz. "Definitely, our games are not as huge in terms of amount of content and gameplay hours - we are a smaller studio, this is our first project, so we definitely are building something smaller. But we want to build something as robust in terms of quality, maybe a bit shorter."
The developer said that the game will take about 30-40 hours to complete. At a time when most games take more than 100 hours to complete, this game can be considered quite compact.
"Comparing something to a behemoth like The Witcher, which we aimed for 100+ hours, but I think a lot of people played 200, 300 hours, is insane," Tomaskiewicz said. "If size is your measure, then yes it's not the size of a AAA like The Witcher. But I don't know if size is the measure, to be honest, because there are AAA games like Call of Duty that aren't 100+ hours gameplay campaigns. And I don't know if anyone would call them AA, or indie."
Blood of Dawnwalker is set in an imaginary region of the 14th-century Carpathians where vampires have seized power. The main character is half human, half vampire. The developers promise that time will become one of the player's resources that will need to be monitored. The open world of the game is described as a narrative sandbox. More information about Rebel Wolves is expected to be released in the summer.
