After comparing the performance of the rival Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra and iPhone 16 Pro Max, YouTube channel PhoneBuff also conducted a similar test of both smartphones to determine the winner in terms of battery life.
It is also an automated test that simulates common tasks such as a long phone call, messaging, gaming, web browsing, browsing Instagram, listening to music, being on hold, etc.
Side by side, the smartphones performed a set of tasks, had the same level of display brightness and speaker volume. Of course, each of them started the test with a fully charged battery.
Recall that despite the same display diagonal and fairly close dimensions, the battery capacity of the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra is 5,000 mAh, while the iPhone 16 Pro Max has a smaller capacity of 4,685 mAh. In both cases, OLED displays with a dynamic refresh rate (1-120 Hz) and 3-nanometer flagship chips are used. And while Samsung uses a custom version of the Snapdragon 8 Elite, Apple sticks with its own A18 Pro solution.
And despite the difference in components, this year's Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra and iPhone 16 Pro Max demonstrated almost the same final result. The Galaxy S25 Ultra's active time was 11 hours and 50 minutes, while the iPhone 16 Pro Max lasted 11 minutes longer - 12 hours and 1 minute. Taking into account the 16-hour standby time, the final test time was 27 hours 50 minutes and 28 hours 1 minute, respectively.
