Honda and Nissan have officially concluded merger negotiations , which began in December 2024, with the aim of creating a joint holding company by 2026.
According to the WSJ, the main reason for the collapse of the negotiations was Honda's desire to make Nissan a subsidiary, which caused dissatisfaction with Nissan's management.
Despite the completion of merger negotiations, both companies have confirmed their intention to continue cooperation in the field of electric vehicles and software. This includes joint projects to develop electric vehicles and integrate advanced technologies into their vehicles.
Honda, which has a market capitalization four times that of Nissan, will continue to develop its own strategies and investments in electrification and innovative technologies.
Nissan, in turn, will be looking for new partners to stabilize its financial position and develop its products. In particular, it is considering cooperation with the Taiwanese tech giant Foxconn, which has expressed interest in acquiring a stake in Nissan to work together on electric vehicles.
