The State Department may spend $400 million to buy armored electric vehicles from Tesla, which is run by Elon Musk, a consultant to US President Donald Trump. This was reported by The New York Times.
This information was obtained from the State Department's public documents on spending for fiscal year 2025. The document stated that the Trump administration plans to purchase Tesla armored electric vehicles, but the specific model was not specified. The most likely choice is the Cybertruck, made of high-strength stainless steel.
At the same time, if the US government decides to purchase Tesla electric vehicles, not all of the $400 million will go to Elon Musk's company. Instead, some of these funds will go to other companies that will be engaged in booking and other improvements to electric vehicles, such as Armormax.
A representative of Armormax said during a brief phone conversation with the media on Wednesday that the Trump administration had expressed interest in the company's services, but did not provide any details, as he was not authorized to comment further.
Despite the fact that neither Elon Musk, nor Tesla representatives, nor the State Department commented on the deal, the billionaire reacted to the news on X. Quoting a post in which another author analyzed a report by MSNBC anchor Rachel Maddow, who called the deal between the government and Tesla worth up to $400 million a "self-exchange" and discussed Cybertruck's problems, Musk asked Maddow why she was "lying."
Hey @maddow, why the lie? https://t.co/gUZax7mvef
