European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen wants to attract €200 billion of private and public investment in the development of the artificial intelligence industry in Europe. She made the statement during the Global Artificial Intelligence Summit in Paris, Business Times reports.

According to Leyen, the European Union will provide €50 billion, and the rest of the amount will be raised from investors, suppliers, and other industry representatives. The President of the European Commission also noted that the race for artificial intelligence is far from over and that the EU wants to accelerate innovation.

Leyen noted that of the funds raised, €20 billion will be used to finance four artificial intelligence gigafactories "to enable open collaborative development of the most complex artificial intelligence models. The initial funding will be drawn from existing programs with a digital component.

At the same time, the President of the European Commission said that the EU will make its supercomputer available to the best startups and scientists.

"We want AI to be a force for good. AI needs competition, but AI also needs collaboration," Leyen noted.

At the same time, Leyen noted that artificial intelligence needs people's confidence that it will be safe. She added that the security of new technologies should also be in the interests of business. Nevertheless, Leyen said that the European Commission should make the development of artificial intelligence easier, not impose even more restrictions.

Earlier, French President Emmanuel Macron also announced that his country plans to invest €109 billion in artificial intelligence, including the construction of new data centers.
