The Internet has repeatedly reported that Apple plans to release a MacBook Pro with an OLED screen in 2026. This has now been confirmed by the Korean publication The Elec.

Samsung Display will reportedly be the main supplier of the screens. The company is currently producing test samples of OLED panels on its new equipment, which was installed in November 2024. However, according to industry forecasts, only 3-5 million OLED panels will be supplied annually for the MacBook Pro. With the 8th generation OLED line capable of producing up to 10 million units per year, the company needs to attract additional customers to maximize its production capacity.

The new MacBook Pro is expected to feature hybrid OLED technology similar to that used in the latest iPad Pro. This technology combines a glass substrate with a thin film seal to achieve better brightness, contrast, and energy efficiency than current MacBook Pro models with mini-LED screens.

Samsung Display reports that it has invested about USD 3 billion in its 8th generation OLED production line for notebooks. Chinese display maker BOE is also developing production capabilities for hybrid OLED panels, although its line will be more versatile and will be able to produce both hybrid and flexible OLED displays.

By the way, in addition to the OLED screen, the MacBook Pro 2026 will also become thinner. The new device is likely to be powered by M6 series processors.
