Meta has announced plans to use AI-generated characters on Facebook to enhance user activity and engagement on the platform. According to Futurism, these characters, created using Meta's AI studio, are seen by the company as additions to real users. Interacting with them will be similar to communicating with real people. Meta's Vice President of Generative AI, Conor Hayes, stated that AI accounts will coexist with real Facebook users over time.
"They will all have a specified biography and profile picture, and will be able to generate and share content using artificial intelligence on the platform... This is where we believe it's headed," Hayes said.
In addition to creating fictional characters, Meta's AI studio will provide influencers on Facebook and Instagram with the ability to create their own AI avatars. Users will be able to interact and engage with these digital versions just like with real people.
