On October 25, 2024, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 was released, which became the most successful game release in the history of the series. This was announced during Microsoft's financial report by the company's CEO Satya Nadella, Insder Gaming writes.
Black Ops 6 was also the first Call of Duty game to be available on Game Pass on the day of release. According to Nadell, this helped Game Pass gain a record number of new subscribers, even though the company removed the trial version of the subscription before the release.
Despite worries that the Game Pass release could hurt the game's sales, Nadella also said that Call of Duty sales on Steam and PlayStation grew by 60% compared to last year.
"Last week’s launch of Black Ops 6 was the biggest Call of Duty release ever, setting a record for day one players as well as Game Pass subscriber adds on launch day. And unit sales on PlayStation and Steam were also up over 60% year-over-year. This speaks to our strategy of meeting gamers where they are by enabling them to play more games across the screens they spend their time on," Nadella said.
The game's official X account also posted a message about the game's success, noting that Black Ops 6 had the most successful first three days in the series. During the first weekend from Friday, May 25 to Sunday, May 27, the game attracted the largest number of players in the franchise, as well as the most hours played and the most matches played.
