Google has signed an agreement to buy electricity from several small modular reactors to support artificial intelligence. This was reported by Reuters.

The agreement was signed with Kairos Power. Google is expected to buy electricity from six or seven Kairos reactors.

The first small modular reactor is scheduled to be launched by 2030, and the rest by 2035. The companies did not disclose the financial details of the deal, nor did they say where in the United States these facilities will be built.

At the same time, Kairos Power needs to obtain a full construction and design permit from the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission, as well as permits from local authorities, a process that could take years.

At the end of last year, Kairos received a permit from the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission to build a demonstration reactor in Tennessee.

By the way, Microsoft recently signed an agreement to restore the closed Three Mile Island nuclear power plant. If approved by regulators, the software maker will have exclusive rights to 100% of the electricity generated for the needs of its AI data centers.
