In addition to the stock drop and internal investigations, Ubisoft is facing a potential class action lawsuit claiming that it illegally shared personal information of Ubisoft Store users with Meta. This was reported by PC Gamer.
The company is accused of using the Meta Pixel tracker. That is, if you log in to your Ubisoft account using Facebook, Meta will track all your activities and use this information in targeted advertising.
The authors of the lawsuit argue that this implementation of consumer surveillance is illegal because it discloses personal information to "any person with ordinary technical skills who has received the data" and does so without prior notice.
Ubisoft thus violated the Video Privacy Protection Act, the Federal Wiretap Act, and the California Invasion of Privacy Act.
The plaintiffs Trevor Lakes and Alex Rajjoub - who purchased several games from the Ubisoft Store - "individually and on behalf of all others similarly situated", are seeking financial damages and an order requiring Ubisoft to either get rid of Meta Pixel or obtain users' consent to transfer their data.
