Google Photos now has a photo search with integrated Gemini. The feature is called Ask Photos. Users can describe the content of a photo, and artificial intelligence will find it. However, the feature is currently available only in the US. This was reported by 9to5Google.

The new feature will replace the regular search box at the bottom of the screen. The old photo search will remain, but you'll only be able to use it if Gemini can't handle your query.

Artificial intelligence is best at navigating photos with people, but it can also help you find a memorable vacation photo. One example of a question during the launch at Google I/O 2024 was "What did we eat at the hotel in Stanley?".

For some people, this feature will be a lifesaver, but others may understandably disagree with its somewhat invasive capabilities. To start using the feature, you need to agree to the processing of your photos and videos by artificial intelligence.

Google assures you that you don't need to worry about the fact that answers from Ask Photos can be viewed by people. In order to improve the feature, "queries can be viewed by people, but only after you've signed out of your Google account to protect your privacy."
