OpenAI is launching beta testing of Canvas, a new interface for working with ChatGPT on writing and coding projects. This was reported by Engadget.
"This early beta introduces a new way of working together—not just through conversation, but by creating and refining ideas side by side," the company's blog says.
When you use the interface, a separate window will open next to the main chat space - in this workspace, you can place text or code and highlight sections that the model can focus on and edit.
The space can be launched manually. Canvas can also open automatically when it "detects a scenario in which it could be helpful," OpenAI explained.
Canvas is already available for ChatGPT Plus and Team subscribers. Enterprise and Edu users will soon have access to it. OpenAI also plans to make the space available to all ChatGPT Free users when it comes out of beta.
The Canvas tool makes ChatGPT similar to other AI assistants that have separate workspaces to focus on specific parts of a project, such as Anthropic's Artifacts and Cursor's coding-focused AI model.
