Epic Games wants to improve its Epic Games Store on PC and smartphones. The key element the company wants to focus on is the "social structure". This was reported by The Verge.
In an interview with The Verge, Epic Games Store CEO Steve Ellison said that social features in the PC store "suck" and that the company will focus on fixing it. However, updates in this area should not be expected until the summer of 2025.
Allison says that Epic's goal is to bring the social experience of Fortnite players into the game store itself, where players will be able to chat, hang out, share feedback, and more. These social features will be available on both the EGS client on PC and the mobile app, allowing players to stay connected with their gaming friends everywhere.
The newly launched mobile store plans to add more than 50 games and even give them away for free, but only Fortnite, Rocket League Sideswipe, and Fall Guys will be available for download after the release. In an interview, Ellison explained why this happened. According to him, the main problem is to add the possibility of in-game payments to all third-party projects.
Currently, mobile developers rely on Apple and Google's payment processing platforms to generate revenue from in-game purchases. However, in the case of the Epic Games Store, developers will have to rely on Epic's payment processing platform or third parties, which delays the addition of new mobile projects.
