Famous director James Cameron, who created such iconic films as Avatar and Titanic, joins the board of directors of Stability AI. It was reported by the company, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Stability AI is known as the creator of the Stable Diffusion AI image generator. Last year, the company also introduced Stable Video Diffusion, a generative model for creating short videos. The technology is closely followed in Hollywood, especially in the visual effects industry.
James Cameron has long sought to push the boundaries of what is technologically possible in movies. And, judging by the Terminator franchise, the director is well acquainted with technologies that have gotten out of hand.
He was also one of the first filmmakers to harness the potential of computer visual effects and went on to use his films to advance the entire industry.
“I’ve spent my career seeking out emerging technologies that push the very boundaries of what’s possible, all in the service of telling incredible stories,” James Cameron said in a statement.
Stability AI CEO Prem Akkaraju, on the other hand, noted that the director "lives in the future and is waiting for the rest of us to catch up."
