HTC has announced the Vive Focus Vision, a new virtual reality headset for gaming based on the Vive Focus 3. It will cost $999 and is already available for pre-order on the HTC website. It was reported by The Verge.
Focus Vision can be used as a standalone device or connected to a computer via USB-C. In fact, it is an improved version of the Focus 3 that the company released in 2021 - it has the same 2448 x 2448 resolution per eye and 120-degree field of view, and uses the Snapdragon XR2 chip.
The new features include two 16-megapixel cameras with color pass-through, and the headset can now automatically adjust the lenses to compensate for the distance between your eyes.
Focus Vision also adds support for DisplayPort over USB-C, which HTC says provides a lossless connection when connected to a PC. And after an update later this year, DisplayPort connectivity will increase the display refresh rate from the usual 90 Hz to 120 Hz.
Focus Vision has 128GB of storage (with a microSD slot for an additional 2TB) and 12GB of RAM, up from 8GB in the previous model. The headset also supports all Focus 3 accessories.
The built-in battery provides 20 minutes of battery life, giving you time to replace the main power supply. In addition, the headset has a new fan that allows for 30% more airflow for better cooling.
Customers who pre-order by October 17, 2024, will receive a set of a 5-meter USB-C cable with support for the alternative DP 1.4 mode and adapters for streaming virtual reality to a PC.
