Google is integrating a calendar into the Chrome tab for Workspace users. When opening new tabs from a Google Workspace account, scheduled events will also be located under the site labels next to the list of files in Google Drive. This was reported by The Verge.
The new feature comes along with several other updates to Google Workspace, including new administrator-managed site shortcuts that allow IT to create quick links to frequently used sites in a list of URLs.
Regular Chrome users can already create their own site shortcuts - for example, you can program a search for Reddit by simply typing red. Now, group policies can be applied to departments and automatically provide employees with the most useful shortcuts.
Chrome will also start reminding you of tabs that you may have forgotten about, regardless of which device they are open on.
IT teams also gain more granular controls, including profile-level security policies and managed browsing, designed to separate personal and work data in BYOD environments.
On the end-user side, when people log in to their work accounts, a new interface will appear that will more clearly show what data the company has access to on the device and help them store personal bookmarks, extensions, and browser data in separate profiles.
