Microsoft, together with the rather controversial investment company BlackRock, plans to launch a fund worth more than $30 billion to invest in artificial intelligence infrastructure. This was reported by Reuters.
Both companies plan to use the money to build artificial intelligence infrastructure, including new data centers and energy projects.
Both companies' investments in AI infrastructure are directly related to the fact that training new models requires data centers, which in turn require a lot of energy. In some cases, artificial intelligence uses as much energy as the whole of Ireland.
As part of this fund, Microsoft and BlackRock are launching the Global AI Infrastructure Partnership investment vehicle. The companies state that this tool will be used to help strengthen the supply chain of artificial intelligence and energy sourcing.
The companies add that this cooperation will mobilize a total investment potential of up to $100 billion, including debt financing. Abu Dhabi investment company MGX will be the general partner of the fund, while NVIDIA will provide expert support.
