This amount is separate from the previous $8.5 billion that the Biden-Harris administration allocated to the company to promote local semiconductor development and manufacturing in March.

This time, the funding is directed to the Sucre Enclave program, which builds on previous projects between the company and the US Department of Defense, such as Rapid Assured Microelectronics Prototypes - Commercial (RAMP-C) and State-of-the-Art Heterogeneous Integration Prototype (SHIP).

"Intel is proud of our ongoing collaboration with the U.S. Department of Defense to help strengthen America’s defense and national security systems. Today’s announcement highlights our joint commitment with the U.S. government to fortify the domestic semiconductor supply chain and to ensure the United States maintains its leadership in advanced manufacturing, microelectronics systems, and process technology," said Chris George, president and general manager of Intel Federal.

A US government spokesperson told CNBC that the payments will be made by the end of 2024.

In particular, it provides external customers and suppliers with a clear separation and independence from the rest of the company, and gives the company the flexibility to evaluate independent sources of funding and optimize the capital structure of each business.

Earlier, it also became known that Amazon AWS signed a contract with Intel to manufacture chips for artificial intelligence to order. As a result of these events, the company's share price increased by 8%.
