In the coming months, Meta Platforms will start training its artificial intelligence models using public content shared by adults on Facebook and Instagram in the UK. This was reported by Reuters.
To train AI, the company will use public posts, including photos, captions, and comments. At the same time, Meta added that the training content will not include private messages or information from user accounts under the age of 18.
Facebook and Instagram users in the UK will start receiving notifications in the apps next week explaining the company's procedure and how they can object to the use of their data for training.
As a reminder, in June 2024, Meta paused the training of its AI in Europe after receiving objections from the Irish privacy regulator
At the time, the Irish Data Protection Commission asked the company to postpone training its large-scale language models on content that was publicly posted on Facebook and Instagram profiles.
Since then, Meta has simplified the way users can object to the processing of their data and expanded the window in which they can do so.
