LG has announced ThinQ ON, a specialized hub for smart homes. The device will be shown at the IFA 2024 technology exhibition in Berlin in early September 2024, The Verge reports.
ThinQ ON is an AI-powered hub that can connect and control LG appliances and other smart home devices via Thread, Matter, and Wi-Fi. It runs on LG's ThinQ smart home platform and uses LG's Affectionate Intelligence to learn from your usage patterns and provide voice control of connected devices.
The company claims that the voice assistant can understand spoken language, interpret context, and learn user preferences. The hub is powered by LG's artificial intelligence chipset, and according to LG, it was designed to be scalable in the future.
Like most smart home hubs, ON allows you to control and monitor the settings of connected devices, as well as create scenarios for smart home automation using the app.
ThinQ ON is Matter certified. LG says it will support a variety of network connectivity options, including Wi-Fi and Thread.
LG's approach to smart home has so far been largely limited to managing its own devices. This new hub is the first major step toward building a more robust smart home platform, similar to Samsung and its SmartThings smart home platform.
The price and release date of ThinQ ON have not yet been announced.
