In October 2024, Microsoft plans to allow participants of its software testing program to try out the controversial Recall AI feature that saves screenshots of user activity in a single chronological feed. This was reported by The Verge.

“With a commitment to delivering a trustworthy and secure Recall (preview) experience on Copilot Plus PCs for customers, we’re sharing an update that Recall will be available to Windows Insiders starting in October,” Pavan Davuluri, head of Windows and Surface, wrote on Microsoft's blog.

It's likely that Microsoft just needs more time to fully test the security changes to Recall. This could mean that we won't see a full Recall launch this year.

Microsoft typically tests Windows features through the Insider program for several weeks or months before releasing them to the general public.

As a reminder, Microsoft announced an AI-based feature for computers called Copilot+ in May. The tool is designed to quickly and easily find and return to previous activities, documents, chats, etc.

Nevertheless, experts have reported potential risks from Recall. After that, it became known that Microsoft was making changes to Recall to make the feature safer. In the end, the company decided to postpone the launch of the tool, which was scheduled for June 18.
