In the US, the SAG-AFTRA actors' guild has announced a new agreement that will allow actors to earn money on AI copies of their voices. It is reported by Engadget.
The union, which represents thousands of performers, has entered into an agreement with the online platform Narrativ, where performers will be able to license digital replicas of their voices for use in audio advertising.
Brands that want to use the voice of a performer will have to identify the products or services they are promoting, and performers will be able to review offers before accepting or rejecting them.
Performers will also be able to set their own prices. And if they no longer want to cooperate with Narrativ, the platform will have to delete the digital replica of their voice and all the recordings made to create it.
Under the terms of the agreement, executives must provide informed consent before such copies are created. They will also have to provide their consent for each additional project where a copy of their voice is used.
As a reminder, in January 2024, SAG-AFTRA and Replica Studios, a voice acting studio that uses artificial intelligence, agreed to use AI in video games. The agreement provides for informed consent to the use of AI to create digital voice replicas.
