After Apple updated the entire iPhone lineup in 2020 with a new design and 5G connectivity, all subsequent models received minor changes. This trend will continue in the upcoming iPhone 16 line, which is scheduled for release later this year, Bloomberg reports.
Although last year's iPhone 15 Pro introduced a titanium body and a USB-C port, it was essentially the same smartphone as its predecessor. Similarly, although the iPhone 14 Pro introduced Dynamic Island, a new UI element, it was not fundamentally different from the 13 Pro, which was only a slight evolution of the iPhone 12 Pro.
The iPhone 16 line, which is expected to consist of the iPhone 16, 16 Plus, 16 Pro, and 16 Pro Max, will also follow this logic. The new models will not differ significantly from their predecessors and will not have a significant number of new features.
Here's what to expect from the iPhone 16 lineup:
- The main advantage of the new models will be Apple Intelligence, a set of artificial intelligence capabilities. All iPhone 16s will support it, but it will also be compatible with iPhone 15 Pro models.
- Non-Pro iPhone 16 models will get the Action Button, which was exclusive to last year's Pro versions. However, as iOS 18 introduces a revamped Control Center with more options and variable lock screen settings, the Action Button may become a less prominent feature.
- One of the interesting design additions, at least for the Pro models, will be a new camera control button on the right side of the smartphone. It will function like a camera shutter button, allowing users to press it lightly to autofocus and harder to take photos. Swiping the button will allow you to zoom in when shooting photos and videos.
- Another likely change affecting the Pro models exclusively is slightly larger displays. The standard Pro is expected to grow from 6.1 to 6.3 inches, and the Pro Max from 6.7 to almost 6.9 inches.
- As usual, Apple will update the color scheme. For the Pro models, the blue case is expected to be replaced, with the possible return of the rose gold color that was popular a few years ago.
- In addition, all four models will be equipped with the new A18 processor and will have 8 GB of RAM, the minimum required for Apple Intelligence.
