Neuralink has successfully implanted a brain chip in a second patient. This was announced by the company's founder Elon Musk, Reuters reports.
The billionaire did not go into details, but clarified some details. According to him, the second patient had a spinal cord injury similar to that of the first patient.
"I don't want to jinx it but it seems to have gone extremely well with the second implant," Musk told podcast host Lex Fridman. "There's a lot of signal, a lot of electrodes. It's working very well."
The founder of Neuralink did not specify when the operation was performed. But he expects that this year the company will implant brain chips in eight more patients as part of clinical trials.
In early 2024 ,implanted the chip in its first patient. It was Nolan Arbaugh, who was paralyzed from the shoulders down after an accident. Thanks to the company's chip, the man was able to play video games, browse the Internet, and move the cursor on his laptop with his mind.
Shortly after the operation, some problems with the device became known, but thanks to changes in the software, many of its capabilities were restored.
Shortly thereafter gave the green light to implant the brain chip in a second person.
