Google has announced a major update to Gemini. Among other things, it includes faster responses with 1.5 Flash and a mobile app in Ukrainian.
With the update, the new 1.5 Flash model is now available in the free version of Gemini. With it, users will see overall improvements in quality and responsiveness, with particularly noticeable improvements in image reasoning and understanding.
"And just as we've significantly increased the context window in Gemini Advanced, we're quadrupling the number of tokens in Gemini to 32,000, which means you can have longer conversations and ask Gemini more complex questions - all in a free version," Google said in a blog post.
To maximize the use of the expanded context window, it will soon be possible to upload files via Google Drive or directly from the device to users. Gemini will also soon be able to analyze data files, allowing you to extract information and visualize it with charts and graphs.
Gemini 1.5 Flash is now available to all Gemini users, both on browser and mobile devices, in 40 languages in more than 230 countries and territories, including Ukrainian.
The company also said that it now shows links to related content in Gemini for fact-finding queries, continuing its work to reduce hallucinations and make it easier to find websites that help users learn more about a topic.
"From now on, for queries in English in certain countries (including Ukraine), you can access additional information on various topics directly in Gemini answers. Simply click on the icon at the end of the paragraph to see websites where you can dive deeper into a particular topic. This isn't limited to websites: if a Gemini answer refers to information found using the Gmail extension, you'll also see embedded links to the relevant emails," Google explained.
This feature is also based on the company's work against hallucinations. In addition to linking to related content, Gemini's double-check feature verifies answers using Google Search to highlight statements that are confirmed or refuted on the web.
In addition, the company said that Gemini features are now available in more places. For example, earlier this year, Google introduced the ability to communicate with Gemini directly in Google Messages on some Android devices.
"Starting today, we are gradually rolling out this feature to the European Economic Area (EEA), the United Kingdom, Switzerland, and Ukraine, with the ability to communicate in Ukrainian, French, and other recently added languages," the company said.
Among other things, Google is also rolling out the Gemini mobile app in more countries, and it will be available in Ukraine in early August.
In addition, the tech giant will soon expand access to Gemini for teens worldwide in more than 40 languages, including Ukrainian.
"Teens who meet the minimum age requirements for managing their own Google account will be able to access Gemini to better understand school subjects, prepare for university, or get help with creative projects," Google emphasized.
At the same time, the company said that it is increasingly sharing information about the Gemini development process. You can now familiarize yourself with the relevant approaches by following the link. Google also offers to learn more about the company's rules and policies to better understand how the giant deals with complex and sensitive topics.
