CrowdStrike, the company responsible for the recent outage of millions of Windows computers, says it was caused by a security bug that was missed during testing and allowed flawed data to reach customers in a failed update. This was reported by Bloomberg.

According to the newspaper, the company is now trying to piece together all the moments that caused the failure of 8.5 million Windows computers, including those of banks, airline companies, and several Ukrainian companies, among others.

Microsoft, in collaboration with CrowdStrike, has already released updates to address the issue, which first appeared on the morning of July 19, 2024.

CrowdStrike notes that it regularly releases security configuration updates to help companies monitor, detect, and prevent malicious activity.

According to the company, a problematic update to the rapid response content configuration led to such consequences because it had a problem that could not be detected during testing.

The company now claims that in the future it will improve the testing of the content responsiveness department. They also plan to distribute future updates in stages to test them in parts.

In addition, the company will give customers more control over the delivery of such updates, so that they can decide where and when to deploy them.

Earlier, the company explained in detail what exactly caused the malfunction of Windows computers.

CrowdStrike also plans to distribute future update rollouts in phases so that they can be tested in parts before being rolled out on a large scale.
