For some time now, rumors have been circulating that Apple will discontinue the iPhone Plus model next year and replace it with the iPhone 17 Slim. This was reported by GSMArena.
Insider @mingchikuo reports that iPhone Plus sales currently account for only 5% to 10% of total iPhone sales. That's why the company decided to stop wasting resources on an unpopular model and try something new.
The iPhone 17 Slim will have a 6.6-inch screen with a resolution of 1260x2740 and an A19 chip (iPhone 17 Pro models will use the A19 Pro). The Dynamic Island area will be similar to today's, and the metal frame will use a titanium alloy with a lower percentage of titanium compared to the upcoming iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max.
The insider claims that the upcoming "thin" iPhone will have only one rear camera. The company will focus on the innovative form factor of the new smartphone. There is no goal to compete in terms of technical equipment.
This is certainly an interesting gamble on Apple's part that could pay off. After all, in order to be successful, the iPhone 17 Slim only needs to collect about 15% of all new iPhone sales, and that would still make it two or three times as successful as the iPhone Plus.
