It would be nice to make a game about exploring the Wild West with gameplay like the first few hours of Civilization, when you need to explore the game map. Not that this is exactly what the developers at Frog Collective, a small indie studio, thought. Nevertheless, that's how PC Gamer describes their upcoming game ColdRidge.
In ColdRidge, you will play as a lone cowboy who has left the place and has to explore the hexagonal frontier and fulfill orders from the guild.
Each game year, players need to fulfill a sufficient number of guild orders to ensure that the money they earn is enough to last through the winter. However, you can only sign a few contracts at a time, so you need to assess your capabilities and plan your travels in advance.
During their travels, players will need to pay attention to the resources they encounter, memorize these places, and keep them in mind when choosing new contracts.
Frog Collective was founded by a former artist and developer of Amplitude, a studio known for the 4X strategy series Endless and Humankind. The studio intends to release one or two small games every year. A demo version is available on the ColdRidge Steam page, and the full game will be released by the end of 2024.
