For several years now, Netflix has been developing in the gaming sphere, introducing access to a game library as part of its subscription. One of the company's CEOs, Gregory K. Peters, said that Netflix has more than 80 new projects in development. It was reported by GameIndustry.biz.
According to Peters, starting from July 2024, the company plans to release one game per month for the service subscribers. He also noted that the company is committed to further development in the field.
"We're getting close to three years into our gaming initiative, and we're happy with the progress that we've seen," Peters said.
Peters also said that Netflix sees gaming as a "big market" and said that excluding advertising and the markets of Russia and China, the gaming business brings in about $150 billion a year.
He also said that the company has set quite aggressive goals to increase its coverage. Peters added that in 2023, the streaming service was able to triple the coverage of players and that this trend is expected to continue.
Nevertheless, according to the CEO, Netflix's coverage in gaming is quite small compared to the main content of the service. He also noted that the costs of the gaming business are also quite small compared to the work on new shows.
It was recently reported that the streaming service is working on a game based on the Squid Game series.
