A new application called NotchNook has appeared on Mac computers, which turns the notch in the screen on a MacBook Air or MacBook Pro into a dynamic "island" like on an iPhone. This was reported by The Verge.
NotchNook unfolds at the top of the screen to reveal a corner with basic media controls and other widgets that can be customized. There's also a Tray tab where you can drop files or programs. The application is supported on several monitors at the same time, and it is not visible in screenshots if the option to ignore the notch in screenshots is enabled.
You can open the island by clicking on the cutout itself or dragging it down on the trackpad. You can also set it to expand automatically when you hover over it.
NotchNook works on Macs with and without a screen notch. In this case, you can set it to imitate a notch or just a small black stripe.
The application is still under development and will receive more features in the future. For example, the ability to archive or unarchive files by dragging them into the application.
NotchNook feels like a very natural extension of macOS. However, the app still has some work to do, for example, it supports only Apple Music for now, and controls for other streaming services such as Spotify simply do not appear.
