Proton has introduced Scribe, a new AI-powered tool with a focus on privacy that will be built directly into Proton Mail to help you write or rewrite emails.
Scribe has a set of all the necessary functions for writing emails. The new AI assistant will be able to write detailed emails based on user suggestions, shorten already written texts, check them for errors, and change the tone.
The tool is built directly into Proton Mail, so to start working with Scribe, you just need to click the appropriate button and enter a text prompt for the subject line or start using the editing features for the finished text.
As with other Proton products, Scribe was designed with user privacy in mind, as emails can contain a lot of sensitive information, both for individuals and companies.
The new AI tool can be launched through a server that, according to the company, will only process the request and not collect any data. Scribe is based on an open-source code and language model and is itself open-sourced for independent security and privacy audits.
Moreover, the tool can be run locally. To do this, the user's device must meet certain technical requirements, which can be found on the Proton website, and have at least 4 GB of free memory.
Scribe in Proton Mail is available for users with business plans: Mail Essentials, Mail Professional, and Proton Business Suite. The tool will be available as a paid add-on on a per-user basis. It is also available free of charge for users with Visionary and Lifetime plans.
