Dyson announces its second line of headphones. They will be called OnTrac, and their strong point will be customization: interchangeable pads and ear cushions. They will cost $499.99. This was reported by The Verge.
The OnTrac base - the hoop, swivel arms, and controls - is reminiscent of the first Dyson Zone headphones. The hoop, as before, consists of three compartments: the left and right contain the batteries, and the middle one is a regular soft head cushion.
The headphones are available in four different colors. Essentially, you choose what color you want the hoop to be, because almost everything else can be replaced.
- The CNC Copper has a purple hoop and ear cushions, as well as shiny copper-colored overlays.
- CNC Aluminum has a gray hoop with bright yellow ear cushions.
- The Ceramic Cinnabar has a peach hoop, the same ear pads and gray ear cushions.
- CNC Black Nickel, as its name suggests, is made in a laconic black color.
The earpads in the OnTrac are made of foam, and Dyson offers seven different colors, as well as seven different outer pads. You can mix and match the colors as you see fit and create a variety of different combinations.
In addition to its looks, Dyson will offer "best-in-class" noise cancellation with a system of eight microphones. A companion app on a smartphone will also help monitor the noise level around the user. Another advantage is the long battery life: up to 55 hours of continuous listening without recharging.
The OnTracs are equipped with 40mm drivers that reproduce frequencies from 6 Hz to 21,000 Hz, providing deep sub-bass and crisp highs.
For wired listening, you can connect a 3.5 mm to USB-C adapter, as there is no separate 3.5 jack. In terms of Bluetooth codecs, OnTrac supports SBC, AAC, and the lesser-known LDHC, which only works with some Motorola, OnePlus, Nothing, and some other brands.
