Ukrainian developer Dmytro Yarynych presented the first teaser of his project Tailgate, a game about a dog looking for his human.
"Tailgate –is a game about Hyde, a domestic but experienced dog whose life is turned upside down when he suddenly finds himself alone. The trailer shows how Hyde uses his keen sense of smell and canine skills to solve the mystery of the disappearance of his human, Derek. The path to the goal stretches through various places in the village of San Pedro and the mystical canine world, full of challenges and colorful characters," the game's description says.
According to Dmytro, he came up with the idea for the game in 2022 and was inspired by his own dog and their adventures together. In addition, the author was inspired by volunteers and people who help animals, and even more by animals that help people - guide dogs, dogs that help find people under rubble, and ordinary domestic and street dogs. Dmytro thought it would be interesting to come up with a dog-hero who doesn't really want to be one, but has no choice.
Main features of Tailgate: up to 9 different levels-locations (village streets, building materials warehouse, homeless sulphur fortress, wild steppe, abandoned animal shelter, mysterious parallel dog world); the need to think like a dog, sniff everything around you to find traces, directions, objects and hidden passages; the ability to communicate with other animals; the ability to fool around and find memories and much more.
"I want to teach the player to see and think like a dog, because the human world is an incomprehensible maze for a dog. In some places, there will be an opportunity to break out into "freedom" where you can simply explore, find additional elements of the story, and orient yourself on the terrain before returning to the next maze," says Dmytro.
The release date of Tailgate is 2025, but Dmytro Yarynych is going to release a demo version of the game in the fall. Of course, the game will have Ukrainian localization. In the meantime, we recommend adding Tailgate to your Wish List and staying tuned for updates.
