Journalists of TUAW (The Unofficial Apple Weblog), a platform about Apple technology, were surprised to see AI articles written in their name. The platform was shut down in 2015, but last year, someone hijacked the domain and started publishing articles under the pseudonyms of former authors. This was reported by The Verge.
Her screenshots show new posts under the name of allegedly Christina Warren, which she never made. Also, instead of her photo, the profile avatar is a stock photo.
According to information on TUAW's About Us page, TUAW is now owned by Web Orange Limited, which bought the site "without original content" from Yahoo IP Holdings LLC earlier this year.
Warren writes that she was aware of the existence of "zombie brands," but she is sincerely shocked that the new owner of the site stole even the authors' identities.
The new owner of TUAW does not try to hide what he has done; the website even has a note about it.
“With a commitment to revitalize its legacy, the new team at Web Orange Limited meticulously rewrote the content from archived versions available on archive.org, ensuring the preservation of TUAW’s rich history while updating it to meet modern standards and relevance,” is stated on the About Us page of the website.
Initially, when the author first wrote a post about this event on Threads, her last name disappeared from the TUAW website, but her first name and photo remained. Later, after Warren's appeal, her and other names were changed.
On its website, Web Orange Limited describes itself as an "online advertising agency" based in Hong Kong that manages “some of the largest media sites on the internet,” including iLounge, another old Apple blog.
