Apple and Google have teamed up to introduce a new tool that allows users to transfer their photos and videos from Google Photos directly to iCloud Photos. The new feature will be implemented in the near future. It is reported by 9to5Mac.
A similar tool for transferring a gallery from iCloud Photos to Google Photos was launched back in 2021.
The collaboration between Apple and Google is part of the Data Transfer Project, which is an open source initiative aimed at transferring data between different online platforms.
Apple says the service will be available in more than 240 countries and regions around the world. The service is not available for children's accounts or managed Apple ID accounts. You also won't be able to import photos and videos if you have the Advanced Data Protection feature enabled.
Importing your gallery to iCloud won't delete your photos from Google. You also don't need to download the gallery to a physical device; the transfer is cloud-to-cloud.
The company also warns that depending on the size of the gallery, importing can take from several hours to several days.
