Mozilla's Firefox browser will soon receive an update numbered 128.0, which is already available for download on Linux. It adds many useful features and fixes a long-standing bug, according to Phoronix.

Firefox 128 will allow you to play protected content in private browsing mode, which is good news for fans of Netflix and other online streaming services. Firefox 128 will also have a more unified dialog for clearing user data in the browser.

Also, a demo preview of the tab will appear in the browser when you hover over it. The DNS proxy server will now be in SOCKS v5 mode by default. There is support for rendering more text/* file types in a string, as well as support for the CHIPS (Cookies Having Independent Partitioned State) standard.

As for the 25-year-old bug, the update reports fixing the incorrect use of rows and columns in the "text area" HTML in Firefox. This bug was first reported 25 years ago.

Some new features for developers include CSS relative color syntax, which is now enabled by default. The content property in CSS now supports alternative text for content that has images, and various new APIs have been added.

An experimental feature of Firefox 128 is support for the MIME type "image/jxl" in the accept header for standard and JPEG-XL image requests.
