Elon Musk's X platform will soon receive an official warning for failing to combat dangerous content. This may result in a large fine, Bloomberg reports.

The situation is related to the European Digital Services Act (DSA). It came into force in August last year and sets rules for content on platforms, online marketplaces, and app stores.

The law forces their owners to combat disinformation and undesirable content, such as hate speech, terrorist propaganda, and advertisements for dangerous toys.

According to informed sources, the warning to X is likely to be announced by European Commissioner for the Internal Market Thierry Breton before the EU summer vacation.

If X fails to make the necessary changes in response to the European Commission's preliminary findings, the authority may issue a formal decision by the end of the year. After that, X may face a fine for non-compliance, which could be as high as 6% of its revenue.

As a reminder, the European Commission launched an investigation against X on suspicion of violating the requirements of the Digital Services Act in December last year.

It focused on countering the spread of illegal content in the EU and the effectiveness of measures taken to combat manipulative information.
