Morgan is definitely a "thing in itself": retro sports cars, wooden bases and the use of aluminum, even 3-wheelers! It looks like we will soon be adding an electric car to the list.
After all, Morgan recently showed its new concept - the Morgan XP-1 electric car, built as a 3-wheeled car (probably more correctly, a tricycle).
Immediately after the debut, it was stated that this is only an experimental model. However, right after the debut, the company also revealed many interesting details, which indicates that the Morgan XP-1 concept has a future! For example, it is used by Morgan employees to learn how to work with electric vehicles, optimize aerodynamics (aerodynamic drag was reduced by 33%), and study charging and power supply processes.
The Morgan XP-1 Concept itself has a 100 kW electric motor and a 33 kWh battery, which should be enough for 150 miles (240 km) of driving range. Moreover, this is the first time that Morgan XP-1 has created a powertrain in-house. The interior and controls were also developed.
The development of the Morgan XP-1 Concept took about 12 months. Full testing and implementation in production will take another 18-24 months.
And these schedules and timelines tell us that Morgan plans to continue working with the Morgan XP-1 Concept until it gets a production model of the electric car. And for sure, it will be one of the most original electric vehicles in the world!
