After canceling the Basic subscription plan in Canada, Netflix removed it also in the USA and Great Britain. The plan allowed users to watch Netflix on a single screen in 720p quality. This is reported by TechCrunch.
Users who have already subscribed to this plan will be able to continue using it, but new subscribers will not be able to purchase it.
The move, spotted by UK site Code Busters, indicates that the company may cancel the plan in all countries where it has rolled out the ad-supported Standard plan. The basic plan cost $9.99 per month in the US and £6.99 per month in the UK.
“The Basic plan is no longer available for new or rejoining members. If you are currently on the Basic plan, you can remain on this plan until you change plans or cancel your account,” Netflix's support page says.
Netflix first introduced the ad-supported plan in Canada and Mexico, and later launched it in countries such as the US, UK, France, Germany, Italy, Australia, Japan, Korea and Brazil.
Netflix updated its ad-supported Standard plan in April, adding support for simultaneous streaming on two devices and Full HD resolution.
The ad-supported plan costs $6.99 per month in the US and £4.99 per month in the UK. If users want to watch ad-free streaming, they will have to pay $15.99 or £10.99 per month, respectively.
