Hollywood studios want to get AI copies of actors to use them for free and without time limits. This was stated by the chief negotiator of the SAG-AFTRA union, Duncan Crabtree-Ireland, which represents the interests of actors and employees of US media structures, writes The Verge.

According to him, this "groundbreaking proposal" was made by the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP).

“This ‘groundbreaking’ AI proposal that they gave us yesterday, they proposed that our background performers should be able to be scanned, get one day’s pay, and their companies should own that scan, their image, their likeness and should be able to use it for the rest of eternity on any project they want, with no consent and no compensation. So if you think that’s a groundbreaking proposal, I suggest you think again,” SAG-AFTRA said.

The use of generative AI has been one of the main stumbling blocks in negotiations between the studios and the union.

“If we don’t stand tall right now, we are all going to be in trouble, we are all going to be in jeopardy of being replaced by machines,” explained SAG-AFTRA President Fran Drescher.

Considering the situation, Hollywood actors announced a strike. It will officially begin at midnight tonight.

We remind that in the spring the dispute over AI became one of the problems that incited Hollywood screenwriters to go on strike. They insisted on limiting the use of artificial intelligence in scriptwriting for film and television.
