Paradox Interactive demonstrated gameplay fragments of the new game - global space 4X strategy Star Trek: Infinite in the Star Trek universe.

Star Trek: Infinite is a joint project between Paramount, which owns the rights to Star Trek, and Paradox Interactive. It is interesting that the development of the game is not directly done by Paradox Development Studio, which is good at 4X strategies and, thanks to Stellaris (2016), has a rich experience in space strategies, but by the Argentinian (!) studio Nimble Giant Entertainment, which never developed similar games at all.

The events of the game, judging by the calendar and the presence of canonical characters and ships, take place during the time of Star Trek: The Next Generation. The player can take control of one of the four star states - United Federation of Planets, Klingon Empire, Romulan Star Empire or Cardassian Union and fight for influence and territories using diplomacy or the power of star fleets.

In fact, as you can see from the interface and the map, Star Trek: Infinite is a kind of reskin/mod of Stellaris, the mechanics of which have been changed and simplified to better fit the Star Trek universe. On the other hand, Stellaris is a really cool game, it's interesting to see a Star Trek version of it.

Star Trek: Infinite doesn't have a release date yet, but there is a Steam page, so the game can be added to the Wish List.
