According to Bloomberg, Instagram, now owned by Meta Platforms, is developing a text service to compete with Twitter and could launch it as early as June.
According to Bloomberg sources, the company is now testing the project on celebrities and influencers, and it has been going on for the past months. The app will be separate from Instagram, but will allow users to connect its accounts.
Influencer Lia Haberman has even released screenshots of the new app — and it actually looks like an almost identical copy of Twitter.
Based on a (somewhat blurry) example I got, Meta's new app looks a lot like Twitter.

So, could this take over all the Twitter screenshots we've been seeing on the Feed lately? Maybe.
It’s impossible to predict how audiences will respond but this could be an alternative. pic.twitter.com/xgQa1kUjCl
Instagram has not yet commented on this information, but analysts note that the latest events surrounding Twitter and its "chaotic takeover" by Elon Musk force users of the service to look for alternatives, which opens a window of opportunity in this market.
