Microsoft continues to improve its own Surface tablets and is preparing interesting updates. According to the information from Windows Central's Zack Bowden, the new Surface Go 4 will come with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 7c-based ARM processor. This will be the first tablet of this line with an ARM processor.

The code name of the device is Tanta. Aside from the processor, it will receive minimal changes in specifications, but together with the new chip, the device will be able to significantly improve battery life, while maintaining performance on par with the current entry-level model, which has a dual-core Intel Pentium Gold 6500Y. Also, the use of a new chip will allow the tablet to receive support for 5G communication.

Along with this, the company will leave an option with an Intel processor.

Among other plans for its own tablets, the company is also preparing an 11-inch Surface Pro that will help it better compete with Apple (which also offers 11- and 12.9-inch iPad Pros).

Such a tablet is codenamed Luxor and will have a similar size and shape to the Surface Go, although it will have thinner bezels around the display. And, of course, it will offer a matrix with a refresh rate of 120 Hz and more performance compared to the cheaper line.

The new Surface Go and Surface Pro are unlikely to appear before the fall, if not later, although the initial plans were already aimed at the spring of this year. Also, Microsoft is waiting for new Qualcomm Nuvia processors, which should be an update for the Pro-line of tablets.

Meanwhile, Windows 11 has received some improvements for work on smaller screens. So, for example, the behavior of the taskbar when applications are open has been changed, and on 11-inch (or smaller) screens, applications open in full-screen mode, like on Android tablets or iPads. Future improvements should also make Explorer more user-friendly on tablets, and update the lock/login screen and desktop.
